MARITIMO

The philosophy of the design was to retain the eclectic character of the house – show off original features from various eras to demonstrate the house’s historical story, but also make it appropriate for contemporary living. The property is significant in the locality and street scape of its place. Retaining its aggregated form rather than adding-on another ‘bit’ is important to its success.

“I have been in the house for a week and I must say that I am very happy with the results. The house is warm, sunny, comfortable and functional. The appliances are great, all the accessories look good and the finish on everything is really good quality. Thanks everyone for such impeccable work!” René

‘Laroona’ built in 1920 displays elements of the Federation Arts & Crafts style. The main aims for the project were to increase natural light and update the service areas for contemporary living in keeping with heritage conservation.
Materials and proportions are derived from the original but approached in a contemporary manner so as to differentiate them. These include stonework, pressed metal, leadlight, metal work and exposure of brickwork.
The collaboration of artist and craftsmen with the architect have continued the approach of the Arts & Crafts style and revived the building’s old world charm.
